Ways to Help
Ovar’coming Together welcomes any person or group interested in donating their time and expertise to help us spread the word about ovarian cancer throughout Indiana. A variety of committees are available depending on your interests. Contact us for more information on volunteering at 317.925.6643 or volunteer online.
Annual Run/Walk volunteer – September
This is Ovar’s annual fundraising/awareness event. Help needed with Planning committee, early packet pick-up, set-up, registration, water stops, raffle, t-shirts, etc.
Fundraising Opportunities
Grant writing, individual donor development, annual campaign
Health Fair booths
Attend health fairs to distribute information and answer questions about ovarian cancer. Help set up and tear down displays. Various times of the year. Training provided.
Indiana Black Expo - July
Same as Health fair booths. The Black Expo is the largest health fair that we attend.
Office help
As needed basis. Usually day time hours. Sometimes notice can be given, other times it will be a “last-minute” basis.
Project Hope packets
Help prepare and deliver packets to doctor’s offices.
Speaker’s Bureau
People are needed to attend group meetings and give informational presentations regarding ovarian cancer. These meetings can be in the evening, over lunch, etc. Training is provided. Normally the speakers have been affected by ovarian cancer in some way – themselves or a loved one – so that they can share a personal story.
Survivors Teaching Students
Survivors attend a medical school or nursing school class to speak about their
experiences with ovarian cancer. The class instructor will do a teaching session for
about ½ hour, followed by the survivors’ personal story. Training provided. Committee members also needed to help the chair with various duties.
Teal Topics Educational Meetings (formerly called quarterly meetings)
Help plan educational meetings which take place 3-4 times per year. Pick topics, recruit speakers and find locations.
